Steeped in mythos, Brahmatal is a lake nestling in the depths of Uttarakhand Himalayas. Winter sweeps alluringly on the slopes here, making Brahmatal one of the rare Himalayan destinations available for trekking in December, January, February, and March.

Pull factors are many on this trek—changing vistas, from deep and shadowy forests. of oaks and rhododendrons to snow-covered meadows, lakeside camping at Bekaltal, the alpine Brahmatal lake vicinity, and a climactic vision of fabulous high peaks glittering across a brilliant sky! The Garhwal snowline view is all the more special from here because rarely are colossal ice-capped peaks like Mt. Nanda Ghunti and Mt. Trishul are accessible to view on a low-lying trek like this one.

DAY 5: Lohajung to Kathgodam

Detail Itinerary

Day 1: Kathgodam to Lohajung (7,662 ft.)

Start your journey from Kathgodam to Lohajung at an altitude of 7,662 ft.

Stay: Guest house.

Drive: 210 km (approx. 10 hours).

Local market and network are available at Lohajung.

Pick-up time: 06:00 AM at the parking of Kathgodam railway station.

Route: Kathgodam - Bheem Tal - Almora - Kausani - Dewal - Lohajung.

Day 2: Lohajung to Bekaltal to Brahmatal (9,690 ft)

Altitude: 9,690 ft, 4-5 hrs trek, 6 km.
The trek passes through a mix of village paths, forests, and Bekaltal.

Altitude: 10,450 ft, 6-7 hrs trek, 7 km.
First 1.3 hours is a steep ascent via Bekaltal Lake, followed by a gradual ascent for a few hours. The final stretch includes steep and gradual descents to the campsite.

Lunch: Hot or packed lunch, depending on weather and snow conditions.

Water: No water points; carry at least 2 liters of water.

A very scenic day with views of the Shivalik and Greater Himalayas. Visit Brahmatal Lake for an evening walk (500 meters from the campsite).

Stay: Tent accommodation.

Day 3: Brahmatal to Brahmatal High Point and Back (12,100 ft)

Altitude: 12,100 ft, 7-8 hrs trek (to and fro), 5 km (one way).
The trek involves moderate ascents with a few steep slopes.

Water: No water points; carry at least 2 liters of water.

Lunch: Packed lunch at the summit.

Enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view from the summit, including Chaukhambha, Mandir, Mana, Nilgiri, Trishul, Nanda Ghunti, Maitoli, and Panchachuli ranges.

The Borasu Pass and Shivalik Himalayas complete the breathtaking view.

Day 4: Brahmatal to Lohajung (7,662 ft)

Altitude: 7,662 ft, 7-8 hrs trek, 9 km.
The trek includes mixed gradual and steep descents and is a tiring day.

Water: Spring and manmade water points are available en route.

Lunch: Packed lunch during the trek.

Stay: Guest house.

Day 5: Lohajung to Kathgodam

Drive 210 km (approx. 10 hrs).
After morning tea, start your journey to Kathgodam. Breakfast and lunch will be provided en route.

Reach Kathgodam by 6:00 PM.
On the way, stop at Kausani to purchase herbal tea and souvenirs.

Important Notes

  • Normally Trek Shrek expects you to carry your personal luggage on your own, if you wish to offload your backpack, you can give it to Mule.
  • Participants are requested to follow the timing in the program, in case any service is missed due to delay in departure, the company will not be responsible for any refund.
  • Trek Shrek reserves the rights to rearrange the itinerary due to any kind of disturbance (i.e., weather conditions, political conditions, or others) without changing the total number of days and without compromising any service.
  • All the travellers are requested to carry a copy of their medical certificate with them.
  • Any cost arising due to unforeseen circumstances & reasons beyond our control like change in flight and train schedules, cancellation of flights/trains, political disturbances, natural phenomenon, landslides, roadblocks, etc. (to be borne by the client directly on the spot).
  • Climatic conditions in the high altitudes vary from the plains; take adequate time to get acclimatized to high altitudes.
  • Pay heed to the trek leader or instructor in order to enjoy a safe and sound trekking experience.
  • Do not consume alcohol or any other intoxicants during the trek.
  • Avoid trekking during the nights.
  • Before undertaking the trek, consult a physician.
  • Carry basic medications and a first-aid kit during the trek.
  • The trek takes place through eco-friendly zones; do not encourage littering at local sites or campsites.
  • This trip has two variants with transport and without transport.
  • Professional guide(s) to ensure high safety, more information, and personal attention, which are necessary to appreciate a trek.
  • All our guides are professionally trained and have many years of relevant experience in guiding treks.
  • Fresh & clean sleeping bags with inner lining/hot water bottle to keep you warm in cold winters.
  • Basic First Aid Medical kit with Oxygen cylinder and Oximeter (tour guides are certified in handling first aid situations).

Cancellation Policy

➔ If cancellations are made 30 days before the start date of the trip, 25% of total tour cost will be charged as cancellation fees.

➔ If cancellations are made 15-30 days before the start date of the trip, 50% of total tour cost will be charged as cancellation fees.

➔ If cancellations are made within 0-15 days before the start date of the trip, 100% of total tour cost will be charged as cancellation fees.

➔ In case of unforeseen weather conditions or government restrictions, certain trips or activities may get cancelled. In such cases, the operator will try their best to provide an alternate feasible solution. However, a cash refund will not be applicable for the same.

➔ Cancellations are strictly subject to cancellation policies mentioned on the website & are irrespective of the date of booking.

Terms for Cancellation & Refund:

Customer is supposed to make full payment in advance for the confirmed bookings. If a confirmed booking needs to be canceled, the following refund policies apply:

  • Prior 30 days of the confirmed date, 50% of the total amount would be refunded.
  • Prior 25 days of the confirmed date, 40% of the total amount would be refunded.
  • Prior 20 days of the confirmed date, 30% of the total amount would be refunded.
  • Prior 15 days of the confirmed date, 20% of the total amount would be refunded.
  • Prior 10 days of the confirmed date, 10% of the total amount would be refunded.

Note: After the said time, Trek Shrek will not entertain any cancellation, and no amount will be refunded whatsoever.
