Steeped in mythos, Brahmatal is a lake nestling in the depths of Uttarakhand Himalayas. Winter sweeps alluringly on the slopes here, making Brahmatal one of the rare Himalayan destinations available for trekking in December, January, February, and March.
Pull factors are many on this trek—changing vistas, from deep and shadowy forests. of oaks and rhododendrons to snow-covered meadows, lakeside camping at Bekaltal, the alpine Brahmatal lake vicinity, and a climactic vision of fabulous high peaks glittering across a brilliant sky! The Garhwal snowline view is all the more special from here because rarely are colossal ice-capped peaks like Mt. Nanda Ghunti and Mt. Trishul are accessible to view on a low-lying trek like this one.

Start your journey from Kathgodam to Lohajung at an altitude of 7,662 ft.
Stay: Guest house.
Drive: 210 km (approx. 10 hours).
Local market and network are available at Lohajung.
Pick-up time: 06:00 AM at the parking of Kathgodam railway station.
Route: Kathgodam - Bheem Tal - Almora - Kausani - Dewal - Lohajung.
Altitude: 9,690 ft, 4-5 hrs trek, 6 km.
The trek passes through a mix of village paths, forests, and Bekaltal.
Altitude: 10,450 ft, 6-7 hrs trek, 7 km.
First 1.3 hours is a steep ascent via Bekaltal Lake, followed by a gradual ascent for a few hours. The final stretch includes steep and gradual descents to the campsite.
Lunch: Hot or packed lunch, depending on weather and snow conditions.
Water: No water points; carry at least 2 liters of water.
A very scenic day with views of the Shivalik and Greater Himalayas. Visit Brahmatal Lake for an evening walk (500 meters from the campsite).

Enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view from the summit, including Chaukhambha, Mandir, Mana, Nilgiri, Trishul, Nanda Ghunti, Maitoli, and Panchachuli ranges.
The Borasu Pass and Shivalik Himalayas complete the breathtaking view.

After morning tea, start your journey to Kathgodam. Breakfast and lunch will be provided en route.
Reach Kathgodam by 6:00 PM.
On the way, stop at Kausani to purchase herbal tea and souvenirs.
